HSBC established a rep office in Kazakhstan in 1997 and in 1998 HSBC Kazakhstan was officially opened. The first office was located in Dostyk Avenue, Almaty and consisted of 30 staff providing a small range of services to personal and corporate customers. HBKZ was part of the Asia Pacific region until 2001 when the regional reporting line was changed to what is now Continental Europe. The bank remained relatively small during this time servicing a small but profitable portfolio of personal and CIB clients. Since 2007, the bank has undergone a period of significant expansion. New branches were opened in Astana and Atyrau and a second branch in Almaty. A branch in Aktau is due to open in Q2, 2010. Corporate and Institutional Banking with a focus on Leading International Business remains central to the HBKZ business model, but now is part of an organisation that includes PFS, HSS and GB&M. HBKZ is well known in Kazakhstan as a leading international bank with an excellent reputation amongst large corporate companies and Leading International Business. Our Corporate business also caters to CMB clients offering lending and trade finance solutions.
